Victorious

Read Ephesians 6:16-24

Wednesday we started talking about the armor of God, and how we need to put on every piece. We looked at the belt of truth, the body armor of God’s righteousness, and the shoes of peace. Today we are finishing Ephesians by looking at the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit. helmet-of-salvation

shield of faith – This is one of my favorite pieces, and I believe it is so important to living in victory. With the shield of faith we are able to “stop the fiery arrows of the devil.” What are these arrows being aimed at you? You know. Those thoughts, those insecurities, those doubts, the things that make you question God and His character. Satan wants nothing more than for you to doubt that God is faithful, that He is trustworthy, that He is enough. The minute you put down your shield of faith is the minute the enemy will attack.

This past year I was a part of a bible study by Beth Moore called “Believing God.” It talks alot about faith, the importance of faith in Jesus, and how a lack of faith is dangerous. I want to share a 5 statement pledge of faith from this study that I use in my everyday life.

  • God is who He says He is
  • God can do what He says He can do
  • I am who God says I am
  • I can do all things through Christ
  • God’s word is alive and active in me

This is faith. Believing God. When you hold tight to this shield, Satan will have nothing on you!

helmet of salvation – When you put your faith in Christ alone, you are saved. This salvation changes you. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that “anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

The helmet is crucial because it protects your head, and a blow to the head is fatal. What thoughts do you let yourself dwell on? What are you filling your mind with? What are you consumed with? As a Christian, we need to make sure that we are not allowing our old self to take control. If we do, Satan will so easily start to control our thoughts. Do not allow this, because you are dead to the old. You have been given a NEW life through Salvation in Jesus! Therefore, “think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” ~Colossians 3:2

“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” ~Philippians 4:8

sword of the spirit – which is the word of God.

Don’t miss this. There is your greatest weapon against the enemy. In fact, there is nothing Satan can do but turn away and hide when the very words of God are spoken. God’s word has absolute authority and power. It is alive and active. It is truth, and it is life. Don’t miss this. Spend time in God’s word so when the time comes you will be equipped and ready to fight. In Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus was tempted by Satan. He fought back with, “the Scriptures say…” Let us look to Jesus and do the same.

“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”

Lastly, pray. The power of prayer is real. Satan hates when believers pray. God delights in your prayers.

Friends, you have been given all you need to be more than conquerors, to be victorious in this battle of your life. Put on the armor of God every day, and live free!
